Counseling for Children and Teens

Many of the children and teens I work with come to me because they LOVE animals, they find therapy in an office “boring,” they have been labeled “treatment resistant,” or they just feel more comfortable in a casual environment.

Through work and play on the farm, I engage children and teens in activities that bring them into contact with challenges they are experiencing in a non-threatening way.  We can flex between topics easily, and build skills in a fun way, so children and teens come away with actionable steps they can put to use right away.

For the youth I meet with who are not up for engaging with the animals - because it’s cold or rainy out, or they just don’t feel like it - we have plenty of other creative options to choose from in our time together.

Often my work with children and teens involves participation of the parents/caregivers.  Sometimes this takes the form of parent coaching sessions, other times we hold family sessions with the child/teen present, to work through areas of tension or fracture in the relationship.

Some areas of concern that I help children and teens with are anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress management, peer dynamics, school performance, self esteem and self-confidence, and ADHD.

* In-person sessions are recommended for clients under 14 years old.
